Memorials and engraving

Memorials and engraving

Gray Stone Monument designs and crafts headstones, markers and monuments in granite and marble for families across Greater Sacramento. Each stone begins with a conversation about the person being remembered.

Below are the four kinds of memorial work we do, and the cleaning we offer for stones that have weathered over the years.

Custom Headstones & Markers

Flush markers for lawn sections, slanted and beveled headstones for easy reading of the inscription. We work with you on the finish, the border and the layout, and add photo panels, emblems or religious symbols if the family wishes.

Every marker is designed and sized to the guidelines of the Sacramento-area cemetery where it will stand.

Upright and companion stones

Gravestones & Monuments

Classic upright memorials in granite, in blue, grey, black and traditional tones, with deep-cut lettering that stays legible. Companion monuments for double plots and family stones are laid out so there is room for the names and dates still to come.

A heavy stone is only as steady as what it stands on, so we plan the foundation and the mounting along with the monument itself.

Lettering and inscriptions

Cemetery & Stone Engraving

When a final name or date needs to be added, we engrave it at the cemetery on the existing monument and match the original lettering, so the new inscription sits naturally with the old. Traditional, modern and calligraphy lettering, and detailed etching of florals and symbols, are all part of the work.

Stone Crafting & Customization

Bring a photo or a sketch of what you have in mind and we turn it into a photo prototype you can review before anything is cut. Custom contours, hearts and serpentine crowns, and polished, pitched rock and frosted finishes can be combined on a single stone.

Stone Cleaning

Over the years a monument gathers dirt and discoloration. We clean weathered stones with care taken to keep their original character, so the lettering reads clearly again and the stone still looks like itself. Read about stone cleaning.

Sized to your cemetery

Every cemetery sets its own rules, so we start there

Tell us where

Sizes, materials and placement differ from one cemetery to the next. Tell us which one the stone is for and we design to its specifications.

Review the layout

We show the lettering layout and a photo prototype first, so the family sees the stone before it is cut.

Cut and set

Once the family is satisfied, the stone is finished, and installed on a foundation planned for it. You can read more about us on our about page.

Speak with us about the stone

Call during office hours, Mon-Fri 8am-5pm, or send a short note about the person you are remembering. We will respond personally.
